Why I’m partnering with Headwaters Relief Organization
The Athena Protocol is a young adult thriller that addresses trafficking as a global issue. In the book, Athena is a top secret, socially conscious, all-female organization that combats injustice against women and children around the world. The protagonist, Jessie, is a young, hot-headed agent embroiled in a daring mission to take down a human trafficking operation in Belgrade.
I’m thrilled to be working with Headwaters Relief and will donate 100 percent of the affiliate fees I receive for each book purchased through the links on this site.
Headwaters Relief embodies three ideas I hold dear: embracing diversity, using volunteers as agents of change, and communication through story-telling.
One of Headwaters’ award-winning initiatives is creating children’s books as tools for education, and for helping victims build coping skills and develop resiliency. Through my earlier work, particularly The World Unseen and I Can’t Think Straight, I’ve learned that stories can be empowering, giving us characters we identify with and a framework to understand our own lives and humanity. Certain themes tend to recur in my stories – themes of social justice, feminism, integrity, humanism and inclusion. I hope this initiative with Headwaters Relief Organization will speak even more to some of those.
